BS in Nutrition, 20 Years of Experience

Nutritionist & Health Coach

My journey to nutrition started during my high school years as a member of the drill team. This dance group had stringent policies on weight limits. Many of us were fainting in the school hallways trying to starve ourselves to make goal weight on game day. I knew there had to be a better way to maintain a healthy weight, and I intended to help other folks find it too. So, I went to college and majored in nutrition.

With my Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics, I garnered my first nutritionist position working with pregnant mothers, infants, and children in a public health setting and loved it. I loved working with different age groups, cultures, and backgrounds, and that everyday brought a new experience and lasting relationships with my patients.

I remained at this company for 13 years until a minor injury turned into a medical journey. I injured my knee in a 4-wheeler incident. It healed just fine, but the tiny blood clot that formed as a result traveled to my brain. I ended up with a small stroke at the age of 42. I’m thankful everyday that it was not worse. The only lasting symptom was incapacitating migraines. Because of this, I had countless doctor appointments, handfuls of prescription drugs, nerve blocks, and a neural pain stimulator surgically implanted with wires snaking up my spinal cord and wrapping around my head.

I was able to go back to work at a functional medicine clinic with a focus on patients with chronic illness and pain. That is until my body decided it didn’t want anything foreign in it anymore. It rejected the implanted stimulator by working the wires inside my head to the outside of my head.

I decided to take back control of my body and my life. Working with my doctors, I developed a supplement regimen, cut out most of my prescriptions, and followed an anti-inflammatory diet. My pain decreased to the point where nerve implants and blocks were no longer needed. My energy increased, the pep in my step came back, and so did my smile. I have been able to enjoy my life on a new level since.

This is why I am so passionate about helping others learn about nutrition, the importance of self-care, and how it can impact quality of life. I have experienced first-hand how taking control of your own health can transform the body, mind, and spirit.
